Comments by "HomerOJSimpson" (@Homer-OJ-Simpson) on "Why Ukraine joining NATO would crush Russian power" video.
There were attempts but it all stopped when Russia brutally attacked Chechnya. The brutality shown there made it obvious Russia didn’t change and would likely destroy nato or EU from within

This channel makes way too many excuses for russia. It almost never mentions the underlying problem - russia itself a a very aggressive country that all its neighbors fear. Instead, this channel tries to portray Russia a victim as much as possible. He’s from Azerbaijan which is friendly with Russia so maybe that’s where his bias comes from.

@islandwills2778 *it seems to me that not all of russias neighbors fear them", yeah, only 90% of them. But we like to ignore those simple yet uncomfortable facts don't we, Ivan of Russia.
8
But I assume you are a f8sc1st supporter of Ruzzia / Putin and don’t see the problem with such a government being part of EU/NATO
8
@islandwills2778 your logic you have used in this thread could justify even Adolph. . Russia is aggressive (but completely downplayed in the video) and bullies it's neighbors and former puppet states. Those states are worried and join alliances for protection. Russia then sees those alliances as threats and thus has 'valid concerns' which they then use to follow through on the aggressiveness they have displayed
7
@TheLabecki How did Russia want it and what did they do to show they wanted that? Russia was bullying it's neighbors, it was HIGHLY corrupt (thus a no for EU), and it showed extreme brutality in how it handed Chechnya war.

CinemaVenatorITA ”geographical conformation”. He comes up with excuses after excuses for Russia.

@jannecoolen2816 " But around 2009 the Russian sentiment had shifted: " Well before 2009 there was no interest in either side to have Russia as NATO. The 2008 invasion of Georgia basically caused a massive rift but Russia was already heading in that direction before and mid 2000's Putin was making anti EU anti NATO comments. The war on terrorism did creat cooperation but I think with rising oil & gas prices in mid 2000's, Russia felt they could be more aggressive and wouldn't need NATO. Regarding EU, I 100% agree. OP wasn't asking in good faith (pro Putin/Ruzzia) but the requirements for EU are tough and Russia along with several others interested just have too much corruption and or not enough democracy. Given how Hungary and to a less extent Poland has acted in the EU, it will likely be even tougher to join the EU today and in the future.

@kevinw2592 yes, you point to many of the issues with the logic of this video and many other videos from Caspian Report. It's increasingly trying to defend aggressive states either on purpose or their attempt to find an exact middle ground. This is the logic from the video. Russia is aggressive (but completely downplayed in the video) and bullies it's neighbors and former puppet states. Those states are worried and join alliances for protection. Russia then sees those alliances as threats and thus has 'valid concerns' which they then use to follow through on the aggressiveness they have displayed.

@islandwills2778 "you need to google "extending russia" a think tank paper written by the USA " There is no 'by the USA". it's by one person who works for a think tank. You likely come from an oppressive authoritarian state where everything is controlled by the state so I get your confusion.

@JG-xm8jy how is Moscow today? Anyways, you don’t think Ukraine would want to joint nato after Russia attacked them and killed tens of thousands of people and costa that will be over $100 billion?
3
@JG-xm8jy U support ruzzian fscm. definition: a political philosophy, movement, or regime (1) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and (2) that stands for a centralized autocratic government (3) headed by a dictatorial leader, (4) severe economic and social regimentation, and (5) forcible suppression of opposition 1. Exalts the Russian nation above all else 2. Russia is highly centralized with Putin as the autocratic leader 3. Putin is has essentially made himself dictator by rigging the system and by use of number 5 4. Putin eliminates opposition with poison, prison, or pushed out of windows. He arrests protesters in mass numbers

@Nik-jq4tx the conversations on EU/NATO stalled by late 90's to mid 00's before LGBTQ rights were a big thing.

You are right, should have mentioned nukes as defense but…This channel makes way too many excuses for russia. @Viperzka Honestly, I think only a pro Putin would think it's a fair treatment of the situation. You point out when a nuclear armed nation was invaded? Why doesn't the video mention that? You also realize that historically it was Russia invading it's neighbors FAR more than it's neighbors invading Russia yet this video leads viewers to believe Russia was invaded more often or equally often. The fact is there is zero 'understanding why Russia is afraid" UNLESS it's goals are to have puppet states and bully it's neighbors but fears those nations retaliating. Literally every problem that is Russia related in that region is because Russia is a aggressive and wants to dominate it's former puppet states.
2
@dfhwze Seems like the US was right to not have NS2 as it would give RUS to much power. But RU did not have 'good relations with EU', RU just did business regarding gas with a few countries. There was certainly zero interest in RU being part of the EU as RU was and is too corrupt. Perhaps interest in the 90's and early 00's when the west believed RU might change but certainly not by late 00's.

@letsgoooooo6628 U r just a f8sc1st supporter of Putin
1
@letsgoooooo6628 And internal conflict dealt with such brutality wouldn't or shouldn't worry NATO/EU? Ireland....when since NATO was formed did UK bomb and 'eliminated from life' thousands of citizens?

@evilleader1991 oh look, Ruzzian that supports fscsm
1
@Boban-cf3jr when did a nuclear armed country ever get invaded? Never. Who invaded who in the current war? Ruzzia invade Ukraine. Why did Russia help Assad of Syria who was dropping chemical weapons on many civilians?
1
@willemjanvierbergen " I think the Caspian report tries to find a place in the middle between Russia and the west but this really does not work out if one of the parties is an aggressor state." This is my biggest problem. Neutral or 'nonbiased' does not mean taking the exact middle ground but that's what Caspian Report does which that ends up defending any terrible actors, in this case Russia. I turned notifications from this channel now and may do a full unsubscribe. The way info is presented in this channel has increasingly become more alarmist (fear mongering) and too often defending bad actors.
1
@willemjanvierbergen And yes, " Being a citizen of Azerbaijan does not mean that you're a Russia-supporter" but compared to most other parts of the world, there is certainly more supporters of Russia there. Azerbaijan was 'absent' in all voting in UN regarding the condemnation of Russia.
1
@Boban-cf3jr "simultaneously causing civil war ". What civil war? You mean Wagner? And a 'civil war' started by Russia itself invading a country that made no threats to Russia? Wagner (now deceased) chief even said Ukraine posed no threat to Russia before Russia invaded in 2022. How is this 99.9% NATO plan when all of this is purely from Russia itself being an aggressive state? You logic can be used to defend even Adolph. . Russia is aggressive (but completely downplayed in the video) and bullies it's neighbors and former puppet states. Those states are worried and join alliances for protection. Russia then sees those alliances as threats and thus has 'valid concerns' which they then use to follow through on the aggressiveness they have displayed.
1
@islandwills2778 That the Yugoslavia that was committing g8no0cide? yes it is. The one sanctioned by the UN? and there were no requirements from NATO, they just decided to use NATO military which for optics reasons, was a mistake.

This channel is always giving too much excuse for Russia
1
@letsgoooooo6628 so natos original purpose was to contain the authoritarian aggressive Russia that took almost all of Easter Europe and forced it under its authoritarian control…then those Eastern European countries get independence in 90’s and fear Russia. Russia invaded its former puppet states and bullies others. Yet somehow it’s not Russia fault that most of Eastern Europe wanted to join nato to protect themselves against the authoritarian aggressive Russia?!

@andresrojas3064 What NATO aggression against Russia? We 100% have seen Russian aggression to many of it's neighbors and towards it owns people (Chechnya, reduction in rights to average Russian, etc). Russia invaded Georgia and took a big chunk via it's proxy govt there. Then did the same in Ukraine in 2014...and in 2022. All while threatening to use a nuclear weapon many times which is a sign of a government that cannot be trusted and has aggression in their goals. What even is your justification for Russia rather than admitting they are the main problem?
1
@evilleader1991 how does history disagree with OP? Russia has historically been the one invading others and since Ruzzia got nukes, no one has invaded them. U r a f8sc1st
