Actually it’s the visits that have deteriorated the ship. The cold water at that time preserved it. No bacteria. Then the visits from above and the bacteria came with it. The bacteria adapted to the cold and now the ship is disappearing. Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust.

@xxdeckxxdumanyan7413 - not in large numbers and not the right kind. Bob Ballard explained this back when they aired the first special. The people were so surprised so much of the ship was still there and he explained how the depth and cold kept the bacteria down. And that what was there did eat metal, metal is not it’s favorite food. When asked what did it eat, he said this shoes did not land on the bottom alone. Hinting that they ate the bodies.
