That's why we need accurate education on all types of drugs taught to kids and teens and we need much more rehab clinics and we need to de-stigmatize the thought of going to one to get help. We need to make them more welcoming and available and advertised to the public. I live in Las Vegas, so rehab commercials are on all of the time here though of course since this city hosts many different people w/all kinds of addictions, from gambling, to alcohol, to meth. And people need to be taught you can do whatever you want to your body, but your rights end when it harms another person, so you will still be held accountable for your actions whether on drugs or not.
Sorry for what happened to your stepfather, but I must say your mom wasn't too bright for getting knocked up by someone like that w/those kind of issues going on, so hope the baby wasn't affected by drug use either. Most people make poor decisions and it's the worst when it affects the lives of children (I should know, both of my parents and stepfather was an alcoholic as well and my stepfather's going to die from it b/c he refused to get help, but my mom has finally left him w/my encouragement), so adults need to be made completely aware that their actions have consequences so they need to think them through fully. That's the biggest problem in our society today is everyone thinks they won't have to face any harsh consequences for doing shitty things to others.
Interesting take on drug use being a beta behavior. I don't know if that's true though, but maybe. I'm going to consider that more going forward when i see addicts. Maybe that's why I don't let myself get hooked to anything for too long as i find it extremely repulsive to let something control my life, so when I see things like alcohol and gaming that could possibly gain control over me, I stop or let up a lot on doing it. I want to be in control of my life as everyone should be. It's pathetic to let yourself succumb to addictions. I've always had a disdain for it because of my childhood spent seeing it all of the time in the adults around me.
I disagree that psychedelics are connecting someone to Satan though, but I don't really believe in Satan as its own entity but more of a way people end up acting when they recede too far from the light or God. I think it just depends on your beliefs and how you interact w/the drug itself. I think some people can be greatly helped by using things like this temporarily or sparingly throughout the years, as it can open their minds in new ways in which when they're sober they wall themselves off from feeling or examining in a different way. There are studies showing ecstasy and shrooms have helped people suffering from long term depression, so I don't think we should discount them. I think you can experience real things in both the sober and inebriated state depending on the drug being used (mainly psychedelics I'm thinking of again as they're different than the other kinds). I do think ultimately though, one should be able to connect with God thru meditation and other actions while being completely sober as it all comes down to one's mindfulness. I just think certain people need more help getting there than others depending on what's life experiences up til that point. If we had a much healthier and connected society, no we wouldn't need them at all, but we don't.
