@_--9286 i disagree,look at Saudi Arabia or China with its rare earths. Natural resources does not automatically result in corruption. More likely the emergence of a weakened state structure after the collapse of colonialism was unable to pressure mining and trading companies into a more beneficial trade agreement and redistribute it to the people equally

@vincere_ the sri lankans were unable to maintain their countries due to the legacy of colonialism Colonialism,like all form of imperialism purposefully created weak local governments to prevent them from being too independent from the imperial centre. This means that when the imperium collapsed what remains in the former colonies were weak government structures that were soon capture of local ethnic and class interests. In Sri Lanka this local interest is sinhala majoritarianism,in US it was the southern gentry,in Mexico it was landlords etc
