I believe that Islam is a good and moral religion,but as it stands today mainstream Islam are very inflexible to change and unwilling to adapt ironically causing moral degradation.   10. Historians are rarely a unified bloc. You got hardline materialists that would puke at any attempt to explain population differences due to culture rather than geography,but there are lots of fence sitters and rationalists that would gladly embrace the concept of a 'better civilization'

Christianity has barely any foundational scriptures(aside from the 4 gospels all Christian books are basically open ended discussions),barely any rituals and most importantly no codified social system This means that Christians can just adapt and coopt social attitudes and cultures depending on their benefits. A Christian can be a feudalist,a democrat,or even a socialist and anarchist;because the bible makes little mention of what a good government system is besides general plautitudes. This is in stark contrast with Islam that describes what an ideal state and social conduct is down to the letter t,as well with Confucianism that promote autocratic bureaucracy and how to treat women. Same with Judaism(which is basically Islam but less universalistic and without Iqta) and Hinduism (caste supremacy go brrr) All these religions have codified social structure that inhibit cultural change. Tl;dr You can be a Christian and a liberal.But not a Confucian or a Muslim and a liberal

This is why political discourse for the last century does not revolve around making a better individual but a better economic condition(i.e empowering minority welfare to reduce crime instead of lecturing them about good and bad) and the British empire has actively contributed to the progress of material condition so much so that slavery was largely eliminated from Mainland Europe until the mass industrialization program under the tsars and Stalin Irish colonization is a far more complex measure,but i can tell you this,the British does not actively want to eradicate celtic culture.
