Britain back then viewed Germany like how US viewed China today, an existential threat (Britain was an oceanic liberal power,Germany was a continental authoritarian state that showed no hesitation in muddling in British colonial affairs and was rapidly industrializing with far higher population,etc) Germany must be crushed at all cost.
