You're kidding right?

"Turkey is claiming that it is protecting the rights of Turkish cypriots in the Eastern Med." hahaha. good one. The more I read it , the funnier and more ridiculous it becomes.

@Roguesta54 As my name implies, in the Netherlands. However, I do know Greek and follow closely the news regarding that area. In contrast to most West and Central Europeans, I see the importance and value of the Aegean and Medittaranean. Let's just say that the comment sections of different news channels, Greek and Turkish, are pretty... colorfull, yeah let's go with that.

@theyeening You have my respect, friend. Not many in the EU know Greece's and Cyprus's plight. It's also a shame that the EU and most of it's members don't care at all or at best maintain a neutral stance to this topic.
4
"Now, they are at least forced to get along" Which is a pain in the ass for Europe as a whole. It's one of the reasons why Greece lags behind in economic growth because it HAS to.
3
@ElendX Small correction. Cyprus had and still has two guarantors. Them being Greece and Turkey.
2
@Roguesta54 You can't but you will have to ask the Americans why they decided to use that port and signed a 5 year contract with the Greek government! I guess they had their reasons...
2
@lacdirk Absolutely not.
2
@sam5tue577 Good point. However, what matters most is if things escalate in Ukraine and NATO decides to intervene for whatever reason. Will Turkey, an unreliable ally at this point with Erdogan being besties with Putin, allow the passage of NATO ships into the Black Sea? Yeah...
2
That is why the Americans use the port of Alexandroupoli in Greece to bypass the straits. Turkey is losing her importance by the day.
2
@sam5tue577 "Turkey has been fighting a proxy against Russia in Libya, Syria, during the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict and now in Ukraine through lending Bayraktar drones to Ukraine." Russia isn't the ONLY reason Turkey decided to fight there. That's because Erdie has some quite big dreams. And Turkey SOLD the drones. "And yes Turkey would allow NATO vessels to enter in case of open war because Turkey is literally bound by NATO’s article 5 to go to war if a NATO member is attacked. Your point being?" Only time will tell but as of now, I don't see Turkey doing it. Especially with this creepy old coot in Turkey that said something yesterday, that he is willing to withdraw Turkey out of NATO???
1
@prometheusjackson8787 I guess it's pretty obvious. And if you are gonna argue about the straits and the army, then you got another thing coming.
1
"Cyprus appears to be part of NATO, although it has never joined the alliance." Well it fucking has to, to put more pressure on those Easterners.
1
@sam5tue577 And why is that? Please enlighten me.

@ozanaksoy7230 With enough time, MAYBE it can work. But I am afraid a clash will happen in the Aegean or Cyprus before the new generation thingy takes any effect. Especially if you take into account that ALL political figures in Turkey, while they bicker A LOT between them, they do have a common goal and that's to not give up on provoking Greece and Cyprus for reasons. No matter if Erdogan remains in power or some other guy comes, the provocations will most likely remain. And from provocations, you know what CAN follow.
1
@ozanaksoy7230 I see this new generation solution a lot lately. It won't work. This fear and hatred is embedded, justifiably, in all people young and old.
1
@zabulus2010 Ehm... Cyprus you mean...
1
@ElendX Oh yeah the UK has two bases there. Shouldn't they just piss off from that island? They have no business being there.
1
@lacdirk Probably not. But hey when Turkey acts as a pain in the ass for NATO and the USA, then I guess a road trip from Alexandroupoli to Bulgaria and Romania is a good alternative. Perhaps not ideal, but still good.
1
@Roguesta54 Perhaps, but I think it has to do with Erdogan that has made Turkey into an unreliable ally for the USA.
1
@lacdirk Aren't you a cute, little cringelord? :)
1
@lacdirk Ah the clown emoji. Classic. Used primarily from little children with limited vocabulary and who fancy themselves as keyboard warriors.
1
@Roguesta54 Hahaha. The hate I see of Turks against Greece goes through the roof. In what world do you live in mate?
1
@jupiterbirlesikgezegenleri9884 Where in the fuck did you see me mention anything about guarantors and stuff. You completely missed my point. Then again, it's no wonder you did.
1
@thesoundinyourhead1782 Whenever I see people like you admitting that Turkey is a problem, a threat to neighboring countries (and by extension the EU) and generally a big pain in the ass, some hope inside of me rekindles, however briefly. Guess Greece and Cyprus aren't THAT alone and abandoned...
1
@thesoundinyourhead1782 Though it kinda saddens me to hear that you are a Greek and not some other European that knows what's going on in the Aegean, you have my sympathy and empathy. I myself am half Greek, half Dutch and it really baffles me how in the hell Europe leaves Greece and Cyprus to their own fate. It's true that the EU helped Greece on occasion (with ridiculously strict austerity measures) but when it comes to the Greko-Turkish stuff... Sometimes I feel as if Greece is viewed as the black sheep of Europe, an outsider and an outlaw due to the infamous economic crisis it went through and is just beggining trying to find it's footing. I am amazed that news channels in Western Europe (the Netherlands included) doesn't talk about Turkey's provocative and expansionistic behavior at all. I really am curious as to how the EU will act SHOULD a conflict truly take place in the Aegean and on Cyprus. Though know this. Despite the governments and the elite do not want to mention what is happening in Greece, there are some good samaritans that recognize your plight and feel your burden. Because they not only view Greece and Cyprus as proper members of the EU but they also know that, should Greece and Cyprus fall the rest of Europe will eventually follow. Which is why I really hope that Ukraine doesn't lose in this conflict. If it does, maybe the other NATO members will not get conquered by Russia, but democracy will falter. The exact same goes for Greece. It is equally important if not more so than Ukraine. You are not alone mate. Stay strong.
1
Fuck no. Let him stay. He has done so much damage to his own country without realizing it. A boon for the Greeks, Cypriots and us Europeans in general.
1
Oh yeah THAT huge military. Lacks some talent after 2016 but yeah, I guess it's huge.
1
@sam5tue577 Because then it will become a proper European city as it should.
1
@sam5tue577 Says a guy with a gimp mask as a profile picture lol. And for the record, yes it is loosing it's importance ever so slowly. Feel free to believe what you want.
1
Greg Smith Lol. Sure mate.
