But you cant deny the fact that dharmic religions prevailed in Nusantara (present Indonesia Malaysia thailand and borneo) for hundreds of years from circa earliest to 4th century AD till 15th century AD... It is very prevalent from ancient historical foundings throughout the country from inscriptions, foundings of ganesha statues, shiva lingam findings etc

The most popular encient epic with the Ramayana which spread to the South East asian archipelago (Indonesia) and has been incorporated to the socio-cultural aspect of Indonesia till today. Many people of Indonesia (all though Muslim) have names coming from Ramayana/Mahabharata characters (Arjuna, Indra, Krisna, Rama, Sinta, Putri, Gatot, Pandu, etc)

@theosteven3362 nothing wrong with that statement.. Maybe bataknese yes was majoritily following parmalim before abrahamic faith came, but most of present day Indonesian area practiced Dharmic religions.. Look at Candi Muara takus in Palembang for example, and many more..

And I have many Balinese friends who are hindu, I also go back and forth to Bali for study.. Hindus co exist here with muslims and other religions peacefully, were unlike ur country.

@ryzensingh7801 except Bali and some communities in Java are still Hindus.. also in west nusa tenggara province still have hindu communities. Fyi in east borneo province in Indonesia, in Kutai Kartanegara regency the muslim sultan there still carries out an ancient hindu tradition known as Erau, it has been done since hes ancestors time when the kingdom was hindu and kutai martadipura kingdom was the oldest and first hindu kingdom in Indonesia founded in 4th century AD. And although our ancestors have become muslim, we dont ignore and whipe out our hindu buddhist heritage unlike pakistanis and afghanis so be thankful for that.. in Prambanan temple muslims perform the ramayan daily

@user-sz3ip6dh4t yes Sanskrit has been in Indonesia for thousands of years before Islam came thus people in Indonesia dont realize if they have sanskrit names although they are muslims. Fyi, the most popular female name in Indonesia is "putri" and 85% of the bearers of that name are muslims. Indonesians also call teachers "Guru" and we call boy and girl formally as "putra" and "putri".

And ramayana and mahabharata has been the epics popularly shown in the Wayang puppet theatres of java since thousands of years and many javanese have thought it as a cultural value of Java instead of hinduism because Indonesia was hindu before the 14th century. Even if you come to Kutai Kartanegara in East Kalimantan province, the muslim sultans there still practice a hindu tradition known as Erau which has been done since the Hindu KutaiMartadipura kingdom which was hes ancestors kingdom. And the inscriptions of Kutai martadipura founded in East Borneo (East kalimantan) province in Indonesia dated back the 4th century AD and was written in Sanskrit using Palava script!

And for regular public subjects (maths, science, etc) teacher we say "guru", but for islamic religious teacher we say "Ustad", and for christian priest we say "pendita", and for hindu priest we say "pedanda"

@byron-ih2ge yes indonesia is muslim majority country now but the sanskrit and hindu culture has already been intacted in our life for generations.. all military mottoes most of them use sanskrit.. indonesians also now even being muslims have Hindu/Sanskrit names.. for example aditya, putri, prameswari, narendra, arya, chandra, indra, suryo, etc

@byron-ih2ge yes jakarta = Jaya and Krta.. it used to be called Jayakarta before the Dutch came and when the Dutch changed its name into Batavia, the term Batavia was returned back to Jayakarta after Indonesia gained independence, but locals made an abreviated form becoming simply "Jakarta". And yes im javanese from my fathers side and the traditional wedding is very hindu influenced, when my sister was married, she wore a bhindi sort of thing on her forehead but it was not circle like Indian bhindi, but its shape has already been javanized, that culture must hve come from india maybe thousands of years back, and many more.. like pouring rose water, etc

@byron-ih2ge the thing is that its more javanese culture intacted rather than a hindu thing. other than javanese, other ethnic groups like Sundanese, Palembang, Malay, Bugis, Banjarese, people also have some pre Islamic culture in their wedding ceremonies still practiced. its been there for generations since Indonesian people embraced Islam during the 14th century or something, and in those ceremonies there are Islamic prayers conducted in the wedding ceremony like Du'a, tahlil, namaz, etc, as though there are no practices going against Islamic sharia, its no problem. if you want to see real hindu wedding, then you can see a Balinese wedding. fun fact, the only province in Indonesia which is abiding by Sharia is Acheh located on the northern tip of Sumatra (close to andaman nicobar), and despite an Islamic province of Indonesia, its province has a motto which is "Panchachitta" (5 goals) surprisingly in Sanskrit not arabic haha

@byron-ih2ge well thats complicated thing bro because allthough we r muslim majority now, the hindu heritage is just cultural and symbolic used in language, tradition, etc which current indonesians dont realize anymore.. for example there is a mosque in Indonesia by the name "masjid garuda sakti", surprising for indians but normal for indonesians because the mosque is situated in the housing compound of Garuda airlines and people named the mosque "garuda shakti mosque", well its something already inherited in the dna of indonesians so they have already living with it not even realizing its hindu/sanskrit heritage

@byron-ih2ge yes, although malaysia and Indonesia was united by srivijaya and Majapahit kingdoms back then, now they have abandoned using original malay/sanskrit names.. most of them use arab names. but some still use sanskrit names like "puteri" but its very few, unlike Indonesia where the most popular female name here is "putri".. my sister's name is also "putri"
