@mrkemrk Hard to have any real plan when we only had 2,000 troops left after the last administration pulled out 15,000! And then the people we trained for 20 years just gave up! Their President fled the country.
What would your genius plan had been, given these circumstances? Sneak out? Move our equipment one piece at a time? What would have been the better plan that WOULD NOT have triggered exactly what we're seeing?
Let's look at it: Say their deadline was December, and we started moving people out at the beginning of this month. Who goes first? Americans? The bulk of our people? What do you think would have happened then? To you think the Afghanistan army would have stayed in place and held the line? How about this: same deadline, but instead of people, we decided to move the bulk of our equipment out because we anticipated their army would fold. So, there's very little left behind for the Taliban to fight with, but do you think people like you would have accused America of leaving the Afghan people to die? Be honest.
Where it all fell apart was pulling 15,000 troops out and leaving a shell of a force behind to do the cleanup.
The last administration knew it wasn't returning, and set out to destroy as much as possible. That's what we're dealing with.
