Huh? This video has nothing to do with the USA. If anything, it's about African governments falling short.

Inhabiting an area is not the same thing as having control over an area.

@renzellousbrown6349 The people in Mali don't have the infrastructure, equipment, or knowledge to get the mining done without a lot of outside investment. If they have corrupt leaders, then it's the responsibility of the citizens to kick them out.

Nope. The poor just don't become rich as quickly, because they have no savings to make investments.

There's nothing wrong with income inequality as long as the pie is growing. Billions of people have smartphones and TV and air conditioning now, that were living in complete poverty 40 years ago.
1
No they can't, because they have no evidence.

How's that working out in Venezuela?

@nerdlingeeksly5192 If gold mining and oil drilling were easy, everyone would be doing it.

@nerdlingeeksly5192 Individuals used to be able to do it when there was still a lot left in the ground. All the easy deposits are gone. Now it requires huge investment of energy and resources to extract smaller and smaller amounts. This is why the companies that can do this profitably get to set the rules.

@renzellousbrown6349 The US government doesn't buy gold from anyone. The gold being bought by UAE is because they want to get rid of their dollars.
1
Because they don't want to be sued for spreading fake information.

Welcome to TedEd, where every video is about social justice.

It would be a lot simpler just to take 100%. These 'governments' are a joke. They're lucky to get any tax revenue at all.
1
Governments have many useful functions like resolving disputes, keeping track of property rights and defending borders. If there is a dispute with the gold miners, it's the responsibility of whoever owns the land to take action against them.

@simulationtheory101 You're a clown. I've been a libertarian since 2008, probably before you were born. No serious libertarian has ever said that governments have no reason to exist. What you're describing is anarchy.
1
It's pronounced sub-sid-ee-ary, you clowns.

Bitcoin flipped gold a long time ago.

So it's the corporations fault these governments are corrupt and incompetent?
1
If all the gold is in your basement, but you can't protect it, whose fault is that?
