@Вивсівідстій no, it doesn't. That's weak trolling at best. RAF QRA operates 365 days a year without any US assistance.

Plenty of deployments also don't attract medals. In any case, he's an engineer, and it's fairly common for that branch not to deploy on ops regularly. Why would someone working in a CAMO, DT, Depth maint, etc environment need to deploy?

CAS in WW2 was an engineer. Until 1950, the CAS role was not limited to aircrew. Pilots see one small part of the big picture, the same as any other branch. They actually get far less experience in management, command, etc until far later in their career than any other officer branch. AOCs need to be operators, as do Commander Air Wings, but CAS does not due to the nature of the role. CAS has operator input from Air & Space Commander, for all operational decisions.

Not really, times just change, along with officer demographics

@BaronFlyingClub can you try that again, but coherent this time?

@winnie796 Techies, and a JEngO to manage it. The vast majority of RAF engineering officers at any given time are not JEngOs. CAS worked on Nimrod, not much deployed JEngO work on that fleet, especially not medal-earning.

@wadders5675 he did deploy, just not to anywhere that attracted medals. Also, nearly all engineering roles, even front line ones, are desk jobs. Why would an engineer need to be on the front line to do their role?

he has Air & Space Commander as his senior operator, to advise on that. CAS's role is about more than fighting wars, which is why he has a broad, varied senior officer team around him to provide specialist input.
