What you are suggesting is not much different from a WW1 monitor.

Poor Drach having to say Slesvig/Schleswig repeatedly.

@jorisammerlaan Typical* fast cruise for a blimp would be 35 knots with a top speed of about 40 knots. Dirigibles are typically a bit faster, with fast cruise and top speeds of about 50 knots and 60 knots, respectively. The use of airships in ASW would be a good topic for a Wednesday Rum Ration. But we will let Drach skip breathing in helium while doing the narration. 😉 * At least these are close to the cited figures for the Goodyear blimps and their replacement Zeppelin** NT semi-rigid dirigibles. ** Yes, the same company founded by Graf Zeppelin (the man, not the dirigible or aircraft carrier) in 1908.

@uristmcary The flight time of a shell is so long that if the ship being targeted sees the muzzle flash and changes course, an otherwise perfectly aimed salvo will miss. This is why hits at over 20,000 yards are very rare occurrences.

@danielmartin7838 CCP? Do you mean PLAN (People's Liberation Army Navy)?

@uristmcary Absolute gun accuracy at 40,000 yards would be shots landing within a 300 to 500 yard circle, so with a spread of 9 shots getting 1 or 2 to hit a 250 to 300 yard target is not impossible if the range is determined correctly. But with range finding errors, hits might drop to less than 1 per every 20 salvos or more.

@khaelamensha3624 Better than dubious French transliterations of American Indian names such as "Keokuk".
