The Kongo class ships could be semi-automated and used as high school training vessels.

Here in the USA, people like to refer to the Iowa class battlecruisers as battleships, while the real battleships (as in intended to be in the line of battle slugging it out with other battleships) were the never completed Montana class.

@bkjeong4302 The big gun came back into its own when the Wave-Motion Gun was fitted to Yamato in 2199. 😉

@jamesharding3459 The Iowa class could defeat any enemy surface ships fast enough to try to engage the carrier groups. As for "duking it out" with ships such as the Yamato class, that is what the Montana class was intended for. For an Iowa to defeat a Yamato one on one would require the use of bad weather, smoke, or night to allow the Iowa to target the Yamato with radar fire control while the Yamato's visual ranging systems were blinded.

Please add USCGC Eagle (WIX-327) to the massive backlog of 5-Minute Guides.

@CastleBravo023 Battlecruiser = battleship minus one turret and some armor, and greater machine space/power and length for more speed. Take a turret off a Montana, thin the armor, decrease the machinery size/power, and you have an Iowa.

@CastleBravo023 Your beliefs and definitions are hardly universal.

@bkjeong4302 Did not the US fleet withdraw to the east at the end of the final day of the Battle of Midway since they were concerned about getting into range of the Japanese battleships/battlecruisers, rather than sticking around to attack them the next day?
