Have to disagree with Drach's comment about the technologies being unforeseen; rather that they were unforeseen outside of a few "skunkworks". Radar, code breaking computers, homing torpedoes, SONAR, jet engines, cruise missiles, guided bombs, ballistic missiles, jet engines, and nuclear weapons were all in research or even development as far back as WW1, but kept tightly under wraps (so tightly that even senior military officers would mostly be unaware of them) until hostilities broke out. More than 5 years is needed to go from basic concept to deployed in service, but at the same time development is limited by the need for secrecy.
