@asdfasdf-vy4pj a windows user can easily use mac and vice versa, I have no idea what you're talking about. You don't need to learn windows or macos in order to use it - can't say the same for linux. I agree that linux is for old people accustomed to the old ways of buggy and slow computers. Also, you're cherry picking your results there, because if you go on any linux forum, you'll see countless users complaining how they can't boot their computer or their screen is black. That rarely happens on windows, because it is, as I already said, stable and consistent. I don't have any problem with you using linux, but I can't say you would say the same for me. I've noticed most linux users are arrogant elitists that are adamant on proving how linux is the best and everybody else is stupid for not using it, but also keeping quiet about the myriads of problems and timesinks that come with it. People won't stop using linux for servers, but they also won't stop using windows as a default desktop OS.

@urnoob5528
As an *engineer*, it's your job to solve problems *cheaply*.
Whether it's the best solution, whether it will last long, or if it can easily be built upon, is not a concern in the majority of cases. If you can't realize this, then you are most likely a hobbyist who does things for themselves for the purpose of having fun. This is not how things are done in the real world.
The age old phrase goes "Any idiot can build a bridge that stands, but it takes an engineer to build a bridge that barely stands".
But as a *programmer*, it isn't so simple, and it can't be solved in a simple way using simple tools. This comparison between programmers ("software engineers") and regular engineers (mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) is the cause of the problem - everyone thinks programming is so simple and that everyone can do it using basic shit. You need to think about the future, a program is not something you make once "perfectly" then let go, it's a process that lasts years and is almost never "done".

@birsp I've gotten used to the fact that I can run anything on Windows, no matter what. If you don't like spending money on software, torrenting is a godsend. For some reason, I don't see any Linux users torrenting for software they could've otherwise gotten for free. Instead, they invent an entirely new OS and use only FOSS. But the problem is, even while torrenting, say, Photoshop, it still wouldn't work, because it doesn't work natively on linux. So you can get the best of both worlds, even more so with Windows LTSC

@birsp It's just that Windows has one true, reliable, correct way of doing a specific thing, whereas the open-sourced nature of linux means you have thousands of packages to choose, most of which require a few other packages in order to do what you wanted. The biggest impact I've seen this on is image editing. On Windows, you install Photoshop. If you want to view images, but hate the default image viewer, you install ImageGlass. Not only does GIMP not have even half of the features PS does, but it can have all sorts of plugins added that are sometimes necessary, but have completely different ways of working and interfacing with the user. It's just not consistent, and doesn't have a unified design theme
