The reason they STILL cld muster forces to penetrate/outflank...is..logistics: better infrastructure east-west in Germany to move troops fast (faster than Soviets or west allies)..and becoz there were TWENTY TIMES more german troops on the EAST front than on the west front in july 1944.... in order to MAKE a STRONG SPITZE force to attack a THINLY STRETCHED west allied front , the germans ONLY need to take away perhaps 5% from the east front to make a FIST of 30% on the west front !! (but only ONCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

  4. my question is this: with the canadians struggling with the schelde..and Patratrooper EAGER for action (there were MORE paratrooper regiments than the 3 at market garden?) why didnt Ike devise a hasty plan to para drop paratroopers on walcheren ? (no need for bombing the dykes...etc..). (at 22:40 ..10th september ?)

  5. yes, yes..hasty plans= bad..always need for thorough planning....but a GOOD paratrooper staff would ALWAYS look at the frontlines and THINK of possible near-future attack opportunities...and NOT wait for general HQ to throw down a cooked up plan..and be 'surprised'.
