If small states are a good way to undermine a large enemy entity...then why dont/didnt the powers of the time....strive for bavarian independence...scottish independence (ahum) ...catalonia in spain ? ... ukraine when within the CCCp ?... and invest in such upheavals instead of gambling on a full out war ?

  2. why is at a certain point in time a unified state a "given" factor ? I d think history shows that any rebellious or different culture province/land with the proper "investments" can always get loosened from the unified entity..
