  1. You are right, but there have been serious shadows in the relations between Russia and Ukraine in not so remote past. You may have heard how Stalin, who didn't trust Ukrainians, imposed an artificial famine on Ukrainian people, requisiting from them all grain and other agricultural products, militarily isolating huge parts of Ukraine and letting it's people die from famine. Sober estimation are 6 milion Ukrainians died during this famine in 1932-33. This memory can fade with time but during the events like today's Russian military agression in Ukraine it comes to the surface again.
