@shannyjackson9206 You make the statement "someone has to look after us and pay for us when we are old". How's this for a novel idea, take responsibility for looking after yourself and being financially secure so you can pay your own way rather than counting on being a parasite.

It is 100% the families decision that they are now in a somewhat isolated part of the world with limited medical facilities. If they had accepted that they must return back to their home (they have no right to come in the first place), none of this would be happening. They are just fortunate that Australia is a compassionate country and has brought the girl here for medical treatment. The ONLY people creating this problem are the family.

@shannyjackson9206 No solution to what problem? Who wants a BIG Australia? Every time this question is asked the overwhelming majority say we don't want a large population. I personally want to see the population shrink back to sub 18 million.

Patriotic Muscle When I was kid we always went to quiet coastal towns for holidays as the old man was a keen fisherman. Those places are now crowded, barely recognizable, just one endless housing estate. The 'magic' is gone. Maybe its just nostalgia for a time passed, maybe its a belief that the very essence of being Australian is open space, room to move, miles of quiet unspoiled beaches, etc...... Having a population of 60 Million people, no matter where they originated, doesn't fit with my idea of what makes Australia the greatest country on earth. Do we really want to become just another Florida or SoCal.

Patriotic Muscle Yes, the Depression Era/WW2 generation that created the 50/60's and just about everything people take for granted today were the greatest generation of Australians ever. The like will never been seen again. In a way I feel sort of sorry for people who never got to meet this generation. They truly missed something special. Yes, I have to agree with you, that generation were 'stiff upper lip', look after your mate, in the best British tradition. Australia no longer has the strength of national character and spirit it once did, and will never regain it. It may live on in pockets of remote rural locations, but that's about it.
