  1. Cutting the immigration rate to zero is the easiest and most effective way to increase the affordability of houses in the longer term. No more complicated than that. The LAST thing the country needs is "more houses" meaning endless sprawling suburban wastelands.

  2.  @JamielDeAbrew  Continuous human population growth IS the major challenge facing the planet. We're breading like a pack of rabbits, with the same disastrous environmental effect. Constant immigration is just bring some already over crowed places problem into Australia. Don't be fooled by government spin about 'growing the economy'. It is just spin as its just a way for government to hide its every increasing overspending. Real GDP per person (the true measure of whether an individual is wealthier) hasn't changed that much in years. In fact I don't have a doubt that large scale immigration is actually many poorer. No need to increase taxes to look after older Australians. If Baby Boomers have acquired nothing after the 'golden years' that made up their life (free education, full employment, mining booms, etc) then I have zero sympathy. Life should be tough if you spent all your money 'pissing it against a wall', or shoving it in a poker machine.
