Who is the "we all fear a second wave"? I don't, I'm still waiting for the first to arrive. What's happen so far? A fraction of the deaths in aged care homes that occur each and every year from Influenza and no one bats an eyelid at those.

Only one little problem with your theory. Australia, just like the world, will NEVER be rid of Covid-19. So is your plan to keep Queensland totally isolated from tourists only (transport and certain people move freely back and forth now) forever?

@tanyabrown9839 It's under control in every state in Australian. It was never out of control and at time in Australia, ever. You have as much chance of eradicating Covid-19 from Australia and you do Influenza. Both are as equally deadly to the same demographic and circumstances. We've lived with Influenza for 100 of years, we'll do exactly the same with Covid-19. The Hong Kong flu which killed over a million people in 1986 still circulates today as part of the annual flu season.

@tanyabrown9839 You really need to stick to facts. There are around 500,000 people in aged care in the UK. There have currently been 35,000 deaths in the UK of people who died with Covid-19. NOT 250,000 plus which would be 50% of people in aged care homes. If you take the reported half the deaths being aged care residents it works out to 3.5% of residents, which is consistent with numbers reported widely for such an age group. In England alone, 30,000 people die each and every year from Influenza and its associated viral phenomena. 100,000 people a year die who had Influenza at the time of death. This is just England, not the whole UK. And another fact. Influenza comes in a sharp peak, just like Covid-19. Most deaths occur in just 2 months of a typical 4 month 'season'. In pointing out that Covid-19 is a corona virus like the common cold (which every man and his dog knows), rather than come across as intelligent it just makes you look condescending and stupid. Perhaps you want to try and explain Singapore. Nearly 29,000 reported cases of Covid-19, and 22 deaths. That's a death rate less than the number usually quoted for Influenza. Could it be Singapore has a wonder drug they are not telling the world? Perhaps Singaporeans have a unique 'constitution'? Or could it just be that like everything the Singapore government does, they have prevented the virus getting into their aged care sector, and they also accurately identify and report people who have truly died from Covid-19.

@tanyabrown9839 And a new strain of Influenza could potentially kill 50% of aged care people in the high care section. If you know anything about aged care, I'll assume not and that makes you fortunate, there is a vast different between the general health in the low and high care sections. If for a second you think the Singapore government do ANYTHING not by the letter, then all that shows is you've never dealt with them, or even have a general understanding of what set Singapore apart from just about every other Asian country. Of worked extensively in Singapore. They would have to be the most precise, non corrupt, transparent government in the WORLD. Their number are correct, to six decimal places. Want to use Australian numbers fine. 7000 reported cases, actually will be significantly higher (how much unknown). One person under 50 has died. Two under 60, the rest quite elderly and most in nursing homes. To my knowledge ALL had one or more serious comobidities. That is NOT a disease that should even in the slightest concern normal health people. In fact it should be encouraged that normal health people get it, as this is the only way the vulnerable in nursing home will eventually be reasonably safe and be able have visitors. Keeping them locked away indefinitely in the last day, months of their life is tantamount to torture.

@tanyabrown9839 First off, your one person who was under 60 you say had no comobidities. He/she did, just the very fact they died from Covid-19 meant there was something wrong with their immune system. Medicine doesn't even recognize obesity as a disease, but its the number one cause of death. Is smoking a disease? No, but smoke any you'll catch 20 times the number of colds and flu that non smokers catch. Don't bother asking how I learnt this many years ago. 5 years ago if you'd said there was a connection between gut bugs and mental health a medical practitioner would have laughed at you. There is a stack of things doctors don't know. Actually they are just about the last crew I would see advice from regarding health matters. If 'herd immunity' doesn't work, then no vaccine will work. A vaccine is just an artificial way of fooling an immune response for the person's body to create antibodies without actually having the disease. A non viable portion of the virus is sometimes used. It's exactly what happens when someone catches the virus. As no vaccine is going to be found, it is the ONLY strategy.

@tanyabrown9839 The danger is trying to STOP community transmission. By doing so you slow herd immunity. Herd immunity is what effectively kills of the spread of the virus as it can't find hosts to infect so fades away. In this way the vulnerable can reemerge back into society somewhat confident those they come in contact are not carriers. The quicker this is achieved the better. As it is IMPOSSIBLE to just eliminate it, so slowing the spread just leaves the vulnerable in a permanent state of vulnerability as the virus just slowly rolls around in the community. The public health officials now pushing 'contact tracing' are being as honest as they were when they were pushing 'flattening the curve'. They are just trying to drag this thing out as long as possible to enjoy their time in the sun, or have a vested interest in research grants. They are certainly not interested in public health. I haven't heard a single relevant thing from them about improving ones immune system to better deal with the virus if someone gets it. Not one.

@joetesta8754 What quick government action? Australia FINALLY stopped incoming overseas flights no earlier than most countries in the world. They made a total hash of the early quarantine process of just 'trusting' people with no monitoring to keep isolated for 14 days. And just what science is there that 14 days is the correct number. Living wage just to sit home, lol. So people with marginal mental health issues can sleep all day, sit up all night smoking dope and play computer games. What a wonderful step forward that is. To some people a proper job with the discipline and social connection it brings is the only thing that keep their fragile lives close to something resembling normality. Australia has become a country full of weak pathetic pussies.

@joetesta8754 I watch quite a bit of international media. Whatever Australia did in the way of lockdown actions and the timing of those actions was happening virtually simultaneously around the world. Our public health offices didn't make an original decision, not one. They simply followed some global script that someone or some organisation unknown was orchestrating. The actions taken, identical, the time virtually identical to the day. The very same debates about removal of restrictions, happening exactly the same all around the world. There is something very fishy about the whole thing.

I simply make some effort to accurately inform myself, and understand the risk of Covid-19 to a healthy person is less than travelling in a motor vehicle. The world is facing a massive public health crises, and has been for quite some time. And it isn't Covid-19. It's just a rather benign bug shinning a massive spotlight on the problem. 42% of Americans are now classified as obese, 10% morbidly obese. Australia isn't far behind. In parts of Asia up to 50% of men smoke, 30% of men in Germany. Together with a diet of junk food the result is massive levels of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension. These are the comobidities that 98% of people who died in New York were suffering from. And just where are our public health officials in that debate, completely missing in action. Just telling everyone hang tight, we might find a vaccine which will allow you to continue with your disgusting lifestyle.
