  1. Other than a small handful of states at each end of the spectrum, virtually all US states have materially the same covid death rate on a population adjusted basis. Around the 3500 people per million.

  2. The state or federal governments were under no compulsion to follow the health ADVICE of the respective chief health officers. It's called "advice", not mandatory instruction. Every decision taken was made by politicians.

  3.  @WyoSavage1976  Florida has a covid death rate of 3,735 per million. New York is 3,683 per million. So while Florida is just marginally higher than New York, given the relatively large senior citizen community in Florida you would naturally expect it to be higher.
