What you're overlooking is that the 1820 (actually 1242 if you use a more accurate 7 day moving average to smooth out daily recording anomalies) occurred on January 27, the peak time of year for viral infections in the UK (and in every country in the Northern Hemisphere). Compare now to the same time 12 months ago, the peak of summer and lowest point in the annual viral cycle. Daily case number are around 30 times higher now, and deaths about 10 times higher now compared to the same time last year, despite the country going from 0% people vaccinated to 78% of all people over 16 fully vaccinated.
