I hope you correct. I was thinking he's just going to sit on the side-line until the time is right (about 12 mounts out from the next election) and then do a leadership challenge, which he will win easily. Then he'd win the next Federal election for Labor. So I hope you correct, so Labor can stay in opposition forever, and be an every shrinking irrelevant inner city greens party competing with The Greens.

If Joel becomes leader of Labor, and wins Government, then the only way I see your prediction coming true is if there is a spill and Joel is replaced as Leader by a 'green' leader. BUT ..... back benches that elect the leader aren't stupid. All those in margin seats know they will be out of a job at the next election because the sensible center of Australian politics doesn't support a greens agenda. So why would they want to swap leaders to one that is going to lead them to defeat??

@backseatgaming9087 Have to disagree, half of Labor votes wouldn't shift to The Greens under an Adam Bandt leadership if Labor adopted a 'sensible center' position. And a 'sensible center' position means support for the coal mining industry. It directly employs hundred of thousands of NSW and Queensland voters, underpins both states budgets, and is the lifeblood of numerous major towns. The only place voters would be lost to The Greens would be inner city 'woke' electorates, and the party would be better off without them. It should reinvent itself back to the past, and try and recapture its traditional blue-collar working base. The priorities of those people are jobs, health, education, and the cost of living i.e. power prices.

@backseatgaming9087 No, I don't underestimate the influence of the Labor left. That's why they will continue to languish in Opposition. These people do not understand the excellent saying "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good". They are not prepared to compromise what they see as their 'perfect' solutions e.g radical climate 'emergency' response, which is totally out of touch with 'blue-collars' workers aspirations and priorities. These people want jobs and security for their family. I spend quite a bit of time in Joel Fitzgibbons electorate area. The whole place is supported by coal. Electricity generation, local infrastructure, the 'cafe culture' of Newcastle, construction, engineering, a thriving area extending way West, everything....... depends on coal. Other aspects of the economy like the wineries, military, etc are just icing on the cake.
