@GoIdie4 In Australia while only 7 people are officially confirmed as having died from the AZ blood cloths, there are 104 'probable cases'. I think the larger number is more likely to be closer to the case. The age of some of the official seven who died are 34, 48, 52, 72. Basically anyone of any age can be affected. What gets misrepresented is its not the risk of blood clots that changes with age, it stays exactly the same. Its the risk of covid that changes with age, so the risk - benefit of AZ becomes more attractive the older a person is. However, the bottom line is the Pfizer in every study shows as being more effective, and it doesn't have the same clotting risks as AZ. So unless there are no alternatives, it is still far better for an older person to get Pfizer.

@GoIdie4 Good to hear it all went well. The issue is probably most pronounced for a truly health person in the 60's. On one hand that have a VERY low risk of a serious outcome from covid. On the other that have a VERY low risk of a serious outcome from the AZ vaccine. Is there a chance they could die from covid? So close to zero it may as well be zero. Are they likely to die from the AZ vaccine, very low chance, but certainly not zero. When they lump all 60 years old into one statistical group and say they have X risk related to covid it is MASSIVELY flawed. In the age group you'll have people fitter and healthier than some 30 years olds competing in triathlons, and at the other end of the spectrum massive obese people with ever comorbidity know to man with one foot in the grave already (and everything in between).

Out for a walk with the wife on Sunday, and a young kid on a bicycle going the other way shouted to me as he was riding past "are you a vaxer or anti-vaxer?" Obviously he's being influenced by people a lot older than himself, and I don't really know which side of the issue he was being influenced toward. All I though was this is starting to get really scary.

Not that simple, many who want a vaccine can't get it.

@GoIdie4 That's the way it should be. Unfortunately in Australia its been driven by political and vested interests. Right from Day 1 it should have been the suburban chemists who were the front line providers. They do influenza vaccinations so are more than qualified. They were prevented from administrating covid for a number of reasons, and still only a very small number are being allowed. If you listen to politicians and media spin doctors (Skynews being one of the worst) it is easy. It is not. My local GP has a 4 week wait list, other doctors in the area have closed their booking so long is the wait list.

@sanctifyme4543 Got NOTHING to do with Section 51 of the Australian Constitution. I wish people would stop repeating this utter nonsense.

@GoIdie4 I've seen the head of the Pharmacy Guild Australia interviewed a number of times. He has constantly stated that from the very beginning vaccines became available in Australia 4000 pharmacies across Australia registered and were equipped to provide vaccination. The 'drug stores' across the USA doing vaccination has been a key to their relatively successful roll-out. The reason the read and willing chemists weren't used was initial because the Federal Government wanted to do the vaccinations for 'brownie points' reasons. When that quickly became a disaster, the State Health departments were brought on board, when they was still a disaster the local GP's were finally included. The GP's have been very resistant to the chemists doing the vaccinations for purely commercial reasons. P.S. The risk of blood clots from the AstraZenica vaccine is essentially identical for any age group.

@GoIdie4 You raise a CRITICAL point, about the cost of lockdowns on the elderly by way of sucking their already dwindling confidence in society from them. I recently say a BBC World show discussing this very issue, they said a study had identified up to 30% of the elderly were failing to rejoin society. Not from a fear of covid, but rather the effect of lockdown on their general confidence. It struck a chord with me as it wasn't that long ago (well before covid) I watched this very same thing happen to my mother, that slow erosion of confidence. I suppose it's happening progressively to all of us (how fearless were we at say 20) but lockup people with just a tiny bit left and it fast tracks that decline. Never talked about when people mention the cost of lockdowns. In fact I've come to the conclusion that society never cared about the elderly before covid, and they really still don't care. It's all just numbers to politicians and their chance of reelection.

Amanda, you are talking through your backside. The vaccine I am prepared to take, the Pfizer that I have paid for, not your government, is made unavailable by your government to either my wife or self. I suppose in a month or so I can shop around and find a GP who is prepared to disregard the governments rules, like so many people that i know have already done, but I shouldn't have to do that.
