  1. Coral bleaching has been occurring on the GBR for at least 500 years (the longest time that science can prove). Common says would say thousands of years. The primary cause of coral bleaching is elevated water temperature due to an El Nino event. There is no established scientific connection between El Nino events and the theory of human induced climate change. This IS current science.
