  1. Once saw a TV documentary on the Hamish in the USA. An elderly Hamish lady was being asked by a young woman how to choose a partner. Best advise I've ever heard, she replied "choose a man by how he treats his horse". Think about it.

While the owner of a horse has 'ownership' and 'power' over the horse, to get the best from it requires patience, care, devotion, awareness, consideration, investment in the relationship etc, etc. Some would call it 'love'. If someone is mean, brutal, impatient, or gets easily frustrated with their horse (many substitutions exist e.g dog, immediate family members), its reasonable to assume they will act the exact same way with their partner when times get tough, or they get bored with them.
