  1. Inflation has been running out of control for years, even as long back as pre the global financial crises. The official number is just a 'fudge' not capturing critical costs like housing, and distorted by an endless supply of cheap goods out of places like China. The shopping trolley 'basket of goods' (the cost of basic living, food and accommodation) has been on a sharp increase in cost for years.

  2. One explanation I've heard as to why Australia's current inflation rate is lagging much of the rest of the world is because energy prices aren't rising so rapidly as other places. So don't worry, close coal fired electricity generators, impose a carbon tax on things like transport and the energy sector and we'll quickly catch up.
