Utter nonsense. You really think Keating retired his brain and disengaged from the world 30 years ago?

A lightweigh like Alexander Downer is not much of a source to be critical of someone of the standing of Paul Keating.

@franktully3065 No matter how you try and spin it, even as a conservative, I acknowledge Paul Keatings MASSIVE contributions to modernizing the Australian economy. Many of the things we take for granted today are the result of his efforts e.g. Superannuation. I can't actually think of ANY politician in modern times who has made a greater contribution to public life. P.S. I also happen to 100% agree with Keating that nuclear submarines for Australia are a complete farce, strategically stupid, and a complete waste of massive amounts of public money. Australia will NEVER actually build, let alone operate nuclear submarines. If Trump is elected he for one will kill the idea STONE DEAD (that the US President can kill it at any time is built into their legislation). WTF do people think they deliberately included that provision?? The US is WAY behind in building their own requirements. That is just one hurdle.

@Eric-kn4yn What has China actually done wrong, not the hype and spin of the warmonger class, but actually done. Yes, they did interfere in Australian democracy at the last election, but so does the USA in lots of countries also.

@franktully3065 See that's probably the main difference between an educated open minder person like me, and a narrow minded political hack like yourself. I acknowledge achievement regardless which side does it. The only time I ever voted Labor was to punish Morrison for his disastrous handling of covid. The Hawke Keating/Keating Labor governments were among the best conservative governments Australia has ever had.
