It's not more contagious. The World Health Organisation has now downgraded the variant circulating in Melbourne B.1.617.1 (Kappa) to that of a "Variant of Interest". It is only the B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant that has emerged in the UK (from the 3 B.1.617 variants in India) that is now classified as a "Variant of Concern". The criteria for a "Variant of Concern" include increased transmissibility, and increase in virulence or change in clinical disease presentation.

This morning watched the South Australian public health head say, in defending her decision to allowing Collingwood? to play their AFL match in SA, words to the effect 'I have information not available to the general public, there is no general community transmission taking place in Melbourne'. The media just let that comment 'go through to the keeper'.

An example of how Australian Public Health Officials and the media are prepared to blatantly lie to the Australia public. On the 4 April the World Health Organisation classified the covid strain circulation in Melbourne B.1.617.1 (Kappa) as a "Variant of interest". A "Variants of interest" by its very classification has no evidence it is more transmissible that other variants. So for 2 months now it has been know there is no evidence the 'Kappa' variant in Melbourne is more transmissible, despite the blatant lies of that clown in change of Victoria's covid response. Only the India variant B.1.617.2 (Delta) is currently classified as a "Variant of Concern" and it has appeared in the UK. Evidence of increased transmission (or greater disease) is the VERY criteria than defines a "Variant of Concern". https://www.who.int/en/activities/tracking-SARS-CoV-2-variants/
