Question? When you say they "Chose", have you actually closely observed how the average hard core Islamic woman is treated by their male partner? The average Australian gives their pet dog more freedom.

@benjamin4894 Under no circumstance am I say ALL the group are devoid of responsibility. My main points are: (1). Whether we like it or not, Australia is responsible for Australian citizens stuck in Syria after the conflict (as is each other country for their citizens). To say just leave them all to the responsibility of Syria is not being a good global citizen. (2) Stereotyping them all into some single 'jihadist' label is no different to what the media did to David Hicks. The vast majority of Australians, and those wanting to make political capital like Peta Credlin, were quite prepared to see naive and harmless David Hicks rot for the rest of his life, without trial, in Guantanamo Bay. Remember, he was the 'left-hand man of Osama bin Laden'. The exact same thing is taking place again. Each individual family will have its own story, its own facts. Some should perhaps go to prison if they choose to return. Some will likely become model citizens with a far greater appreciation of life in Australia after their recent 'experience'.

@benjamin4894 You missing the key point, its NOT about assisting these people. It's about assisting Syria to be rid of a mess they didn't create, and they don't want stuck with. A position I fully appreciate. Put the boot on the other foot. Imagine if people from all over the world had come to Australia to do harm, and were now languishing in some place and we had to feed and look after them. Wouldn't you want the country of their nationality to come remove their rubbish from your shores? I'll bet you would. If you want the country that is REALLY responsible then the USA should take the lot. They are the ones ultimately responsible for what occurred.

@benjamin4894 If you have to ask how the US created the Syrian conflict I can only assume you are not very much up on the subject. They are TOTALLY responsible. First they deposed Saddam Hussain in Iraq which completely destabilised the whole region, which included former military personal dispersing through the region to try and reestablish their power bases again. Next, the CIA trained and funded 'rebels' to try and bring about 'regime change' in Syria. The USA was fully aware this would bring Syria's long term ally Russia into the conflict. Into this shit storm moved ISIS. The foreign policy of the USA in trying to bring about 'regime change' in both Iraq and Syria is 100% responsible for the current mess.

@daniello9155 It's not unreasonable to assume the majority of these women did not "choose" to go to Syria. They were TOLD, instructed, they were going to Syria. If you know anything about the power imbalance between men and women in strict Islamic culture you would understand.

@daniello9155 I'll say it again, a women in strict Islamic society has little to no 'choice'. They are simply told by their male partner what to do, what to say, what to think. Just like me, you actually have zero idea of the different circumstances behind each case. Did they get involved in conflict? Did they just cook and clean as instructed by their 'husband'? Were they made to go by male relatives in Australia? You have no idea, neither do I. You're simply letting yourself get sucked in by media gaslighting, exactly the same as happen in the Julian Assange situation, and David Hicks before that. All 'terrorists' that deserve to rot in hell, according to the media.

@benjamin4894 The US had ZERO grounds for interfering in Iraq, Syria, Egypt, or Libya (sure to have missed a few). They are totally responsible for the mess these interventions created at the time, and those that followed as a direct or indirect result of that action. Just like al-Qaeda, the USA created the seeds of ISIS. The situation being discussed is no more than who is responsible for cleaning up the trash left after the USA's interference.

Just more gaslighting by Credlin. Every one of the woman involved will have a different story. Some may be hardened people who knowingly went to join a jihad, some naive teenagers with little idea what they were getting into, some taken against their will. I've spent many years working in Islamic countries, and to make a generalisation that women are little more than 'goods and chattels' to their dominating male partners is not an exaggeration.

Clearly you have never observed how much "choice" the average Islamic woman is given by her male partner. The average Australian gives their pet dog more 'choice'.

"No doubt"? The reality is you have absolutely no idea as to the circumstances behind each case. None, zero. All you know is they have ended up in Syria, and the circumstances of how that came about will be different in most cases. Some will have gone to fight, some completely naive as to what they were getting involved in, some taken against their will not game to even express an opinion to their dominating male partner.
