Comments by "John Woodrow" (@johnwoodrow8769) on "Voice referendum a ‘complete con’ and ‘surrenders’ to extreme demands" video.
An excellent talk explaining some of the finer points. My only criticism, when on watched this on TV this morning, is that Rowan kept interjecting half way through the experts explanations and concerns. FFS Rowan, let the expert talk, we've heard your thoughts on the matter a thousand times before.

@rapscallion9333 Beat me to it, your comment is exactly what I was going to say. And the 'elites' who will be The Voice can all be seen standing behind Albanese during his 'tearful' address. I have as much aboriginality in me, and are as just as much in touch with aboriginal people in remote communities, as 99% of that group.

@pwillis1589 The only "illogical nonsense" I can see is how you started with the 'slippery slope' genuine concern and ended up with total nonsense.

@JoeyJoJoJrShabbado "can the voice to parliament still be created by parliament"? Absolutely. The Parliament currently has all the power its needs to legislate a working group called 'the voice', fund it, and take advice from it. Exactly as it created ATSIC or the NIAA. Th ONLY reason for a referendum is to embed it in the Constitution, which means for practical purposes it can NEVER be disbanded, and gives it the backing of the High Court over future governments. For example in 300 years time, some future government decides 'the voice' has outlived its purpose, and decides to reduce funding back to a tin shed staffed by one person (it can never simply shut it completely down, being a Constitutional requirement). The 'voice' crew simply go to the High Court and argue that this is unconstitutional as in practice it IS dismantling 'the voice' mandate specified in the Constitution. The High Court would agree with them.

@Design_no And this isn't a remote possibility. The official website of the National Indigenous Australians Agency states ..... "A referendum will be held in this term of Parliament to enshrine an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice in the Australian Constitution. A Makarrata Commission will also be co-designed to work on a national process of treaty-making and truth-telling." Albanese has already confirmed the Labor government is committed to implementing the full Uluru Statement, with includes 'treaty, and 'truth telling' (whatever the F that is).

@pwillis1589 Look, I fully appreciate you just another boring internet troll looking for 'bites'. But I'll play along till I get bored. So you are saying all the constitutional experts, even those who support 'the voice', who say it will be subject to High Count interpretations and rulings, just like every other aspect of the Constitution (the very for the existence of the High Court) are wrong. That's funny!
