All someone has to do is take note of where all the wind farms are located (very remote) and then just use an ounce of common sense to imagine what it cost to connect that remote location to the major grid. Someone is paying for that expensive connection, and it is the consumer by way of ever increasing power bills.

@archcollie5708 Correct. To get 12 volts to run just several meters without a significant voltage drop you need cables as thick as light battery cable. Also, every conversion between AC-DC generates heat. Heat is a loss of energy to the system.

@After_Pasta You claimed to be an expert, yet seem to be disputing that long transmission lines or DC-AC conversion results in significant power loss. If that isn't your position suggest you spend more time writing clearly rather than trying to be 'cute'.

Duh! Your electricity bill keeps going up because transmission and distribution costs keep increasing, due to all the new poles and wires needed to connect all the renewables to the grid, in response to the so called 'climate emergency'. You think those wind farms sitting in the middle of nowhere send the electricity they generate to the grid via wi-fi? The cost of connecting Snowy 2 to the grid isn't that much less than the project itself.

@pittuk6500 It's all really about wealth 'rent seekers' sucking money out of the government and citizens. Basically a MASSIVE transfer of wealth to the rich and powerful, all in the name of the 'climate emergency'. That's where the money from the ever increasing electricity bills is going.

@whythesadface "Climate change" IS the cause of ever increasing electricity prices around the globe, including Australia. Cheap production coal plants are demonised and closed, blow up to ensure they can't be repurposed with another energy source, and renewables are being built all over the place in remote sites that requires a massive investment in additional infrastructure. The 'climate emergency' scare campaign is effective, and the root cause of ever increasing electricity costs. And who benefits, try China. Sheer coincidence, I think not.

@whythesadface You seem as 'thick as two short plants'. What on earth do you think "transmission and distribution" is other than "infrastructure".
