@DanielSMatthews Good theory, but the average young couple just having children are financially strapped just paying for their own home, at the same time dropping to one income for a period, and then all the added costs associated with young children eg. child care (which don't stop, only getting larger as they grow). 99% of people are only on a position to financially assist their children in the latter period of their lives, when the children are fully grown and self sufficient and probably left home. Only then do they have the financial resources (if they have been prudent their working lives) to possibly assist.
