  1. DeSantis doesn't need to challenge Trump. All he has to do is wait him out. Trump will loose big time IF he is still in the race come election time, I seriously doubt he will be. There will be another 4 more years of Democrats in office creating even more mess, and then DeSantis will win easily in 2028.

  2.  @TemplarX2  We're in agreement that Trump will not win in 2024. But DeSantis has already said he won't run if Trump does. That is smart. He knows that even if he beats Trump for the Republican nomination Trump will be doing everything he can to backstab him so that his run will be likely unsuccessful. And that could have longer term consequences. Alternatively just sit it out as the glamor Governor of Florida for another 4 years, let the country become an even bigger mess under another Democrat president (it won't be Joe) and then simply glide into office in 2028. I know which strategy I'd be picking if I was in DeSantis's shoes.

  5. Under just about every scenario you can imagine, the Democrats are now certain winners in 2024. Even if Trump bows out quietly from the race before 2024, which I suspect he will do (because he now knows he can't win), the damage will have been done. Even his daughter Ivanka who is smart, has clearly stated she isn't going to get involved, clearly because she knows it will be just a waste her time in this sure to fail bid.
