  1. Can't agree. Preferential voting gets a closer result to peoples intentions that 'first past the post'. Say there are 4 candidates on the ballot paper. Three conservative, one 'progressive'. Even though the progressive may get only 30% of the vote that could still win if the 70% of conservative vote gets spread across the 3 conservative candidates. If you'd said compulsory preferential I'd agree. Compulsory voting should be got rid off. If the only reason someone votes is to avoid a fine their input into the democratic process is worse than nothing.

  2. So you're quite prepared to leave all the effort up to other people. It aren't over till the 'fat lady sings' at 6.00pm on Saturday. And people like me will still be working on it till probably 9.00pm that night (scrutineering) having started at 7.00am

  3. Peta Credlin is 100% spot on. The outcomes from elections last 4 years till they can be corrected (or at least set on a course for correction). The outcomes from this referendum if it gets up (which will be a radical change to the democratic process i.e. an unelected activist 'House of Lords') will last at a minimum decades till the utter chaos is revoked by a future referendum.
