Well they all claim they are going to achieve 'net-zero by 2050' .... and to achieve that the MUST implement carbon capture and storage. I'm not talking just from power plants, it means sucking it out of the atmosphere.

@JeffBourke China, with a population of 1.4 Billion people, many transitioning from a barely subsistence level to a consumer driven materialistic middle class existence (same deal in India) is as you say NEVER going to get anywhere near net-zero. The bottom line is there is hardly a country on the planet actually reducing its carbon-footprint if the correct basis 'consumption', rather than production, was used to measure it. A 'back of the envelope' proxy to assess if countries are REALLY reducing emissions, or just exporting them to other countries, is to look at total global emissions. And total global emissions are continuing on an upward trajectory.

Well the irony of Labor trying to reject investment in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is that are indirectly rejecting the notion of a 'net-zero by 2050' goal. There isn't a single theoretical framework of what would be needed to achieve 'net-zero by 2050' that I've read, from any part of the world, that doesn't include CCS as a central key element in the plan.
