If the islands in question are the ones I'm thinking, I've looked into this previously. The problem is NOT that the ocean is rising but rather the islands are sinking and eroding. A natural phenomena totally unrelated to 'climate change'.

The cause of problems with Saibai island in the Torres Straight which the pastor referred to is due to the clearing on the coastal mangrove fringe. This mangrove forest is what previously protected this glorified mud bank from erosion. So yes the island is disappearing due to human activity, but nothing to do with CO2 emissions in Australia. These people never let scientific facts get in the way of their virtue signalling wokeism.

Agreed. If someone believe in the 'consensus science' (a flawed concept) all the IPCC publications with predictions of gloom are FUTURE events, 40, 50, 80 years out. While the IPCC recognizes patterns of change in specific regions, something that has been occurring since the beginning of time, they are absolutely clear there is currently no evidence of any present global trend due to human induced 'climate change'.

@AAA-o4g I looked into the issue again. The island in question is a glorified mud bank sitting 1 meter above sea level. If is formed by sediment flowing out of major rivers in PNG. It is now suffering major erosion because the shoreline mangrove forest that protected the mud-bank from the ocean waves has been systematically cut down by locals. THAT is the reason for the erosion of the island, nothing to do with 'climate change'.

I'm a bit older than your, and if anything I think it was hotter when I was young. But I'd be the first to admit this may be mostly perception as there was no air-conditioning, a tin roofed Queensland home had no insulation, and boy a vinyl bench seat Holden parked in the sun was sure hot to jump into.

The whole basis of the christian religion is unquestioning belief without proof. So why would their view on the 'climate crisis' be any different???
