Without large diesel powered SUV's to tow these caravans the industry will DIE! And the number of people indirectly employed e.g. caravan park employees, coffee shops in small towns, etc, etc, there is probably another 10,000 people. Just one more example of Labor not giving a stuff about 'working people'.

Utter crap, Isuzu is going to be forced out of the market, so there is the competitor gone that keeps both Toyota and Ford somewhat honest in their pricing. Without a full range to generate offset credits Isuzu, and RAM are likely to be the first casualties.

@paldridg You obviously don't know the first thing about the towing capacity, range, and recharge times of EV vehicles. A vehicle with an effective towing range of around 100 kilometers and then a couple hour recharge time (IF there was a recharge station to be found, which there won't be anywhere West of the coastal strip) is UTTERLY USELESS!!!

@paldridg That you think an EV is a suitable vehicle for towing a 3 tonne caravan around the backroads of Australia tells me a whole lot about you. It tells me you are someone who has nothing to do with caravans, knows nothing about the subject, and are just another boring virtue signaller who has read something on the internet.

@paldridg My assumption about your is 100% correct. You know nothing about caravans, don't own one, have no idea what is necessary in a tow vehicle, and just virtue signal based on something you read on the internet. Try educating yourself by reading a US based tests of the tow range they achieved with the latest EV's towing a dead flat highways. And that's on the flat. Tow a 3 tonne caravan west from say Grafton and the battery will be dead flat before you reach the top of the ranges, in the middle of a National Park with NOTHING around for a hundred kilometers, and unlikely to be a charging station withing a 2 hours drive radius.

Good article in the US based magazine Mototrend (February 2024) of a writer testing an F150 Lightening with the extended battery option towing his caravan. Conclusion, basically totally useless unless the trip is no more than about 45 miles on flat roads. Try that going from say Port Macquarie west to Walca (the first civilisation) going over the Waterfall Way. A pretty common tourist trip. Distance 181 kilometers. The F150 Lightning would have run completely out of battery half way from climbing the range. In the article the journalist actually tried to recharge the F150 with a decent size portable generator. Can't be done. Several hours on a commercial size generator would put a small amount into the battery. So ditch the caravan, and tow around a massive diesel generator if you want to actually go somewhere.

@paldridg As you last post seems to have been deleted, I'll respond to this one. So finally you admit that no current EV meets the needs of a caravan owner. As such you claims that it exists in vehicles overseas is nothing more than a lie. And now its shifted to 'on the drawing board'. That again is pure BS. I can imagine you'd get on well with Chris Bowen. And its you who shot your credibility to shreds, when you start sprooking your own so called 'expertise'. From your posts it painfully obvious that you have ZERO understanding of the requirements for a recreational tow vehicle, or the unsuitability of EV's ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD to meet those requirements. These are the FACTS! And the new emissions standards, unless quickly dropped by a future conservative government, will be the slow nail in the coffin of the RV industry, and the hundreds of thousands of people it employs both directly and indirectly.

@kermitthehermit9588 The only person who is a 'flog' is someone who has no idea why a person actually needs a large SUV. But I would agree a Ford V6 Ranger diesel is a vastly better vehicle (but more expensive). If I ever did get a RAM it'd have to be one with the 6 liter Cummins diesel.
