  1. I'm obviously highly qualified for a job in the BOM. I know summertime produces cyclones in the Northern tropics, so clearly that makes me an 'expert'. The longer term trend in cyclones since 1970 is less frequent cyclones and no increase in intensity among those that have occurred. This is excellent new for the Great Barrier Reef, as cyclones represent the major threat to the health of the reef. A possible reason for current record high coral cover. COTS are the number 2 'risk', but scientists don't even know if COTS are an introduced species, or a perfectly natural element of the reef.
