What "records have we broken"? Tom was correct in calling this pattern of events "rare" rather than the usual prescribed climate alarmist term ... "unprecedented". Sydney will record over 2000 mm of rain for the year (a lot or rain). The same happened in the 1950's and 1890's. A consistent 1 in every 60 years event since records began.

@michaelhawk8230 A classic example of how the Australian weather bureau has been overrun by climate change extremists pushing their agenda by distorting facts. They will routinely report (as evidence of man made climate change) that the SE corner of Australia has been experiencing a drying trend over recent decades. That statement of itself is absolutely true, but HIGHLY misleading. What they fail to include inform a reader, is based upon the 140 years of official records, wet and dry cycles repeat over roughly 30 year time frames. If you consider the 140 year long period there is no drying trend whatsoever, just a series of cyclical roughly 30 year wet/dry patterns.

@spinafex5729 Yep, you've given a perfect example of how the climate alarmist BOM likes to 'cherry pick' and statistic they can find to push their agenda. The most important statistics to assess the current situation against are, for Sydney: 1860 - 2110 mm rain 1890 - 2071 mm 1950 - 2195 mm 1963 - 2035 mm I'll say it again, there is nothing 'unprecedented' whatsoever in the current heavy rainfall affecting the East Coast of Australia. It has been happening at regular intervals since official records began, and it is not unreasonable that heavier years would have occurred in the thousands of years prior to records began.
