It's the cops 'job' to handcuff a pregnant woman's hand behind her back for a Facebook post? Are you f'ing serious.

I'm actually flabbergasted that they handcuffed the woman. For years I've seen video of this happening in the USA to people for minor offences (or people clearly of no threat to the arresting officers) and said to myself thank god we are more civilized that that. Seems I was deluded.

I don't think ANYONE should be handcuffed just for making a social media comment. Such drastic action should only apply to a potentially dangerous or uncooperative person. That tiny woman in her pajamas being stood over by 2 or was it 3 burly male police was no threat to anyone.

I suppose you would have been happier if they'd also tasered her.

My relatives in Queensland also don't want the boarders opened. The problem with these parochial hicks attitude is they don't realize this is destroying their fellow state residents jobs (in one case their own son who has been laid of by Qantas), and they are eventually going to get the virus anyway. There are just delaying the inevitable. To believe they can prevent it arriving at some point in the future is a total pipe dream.

Interesting how this story has been covered by the left wing media. Just basically report the arrest, and emphasis how heavy the fine will be if anyone dare turn up to the planned protest in Ballarat. And this includes the ABC and The Guardian. Amazing how the 'wokeness' can instantly vanish if an outrage is occurring to the 'wrong' side.

@dkruger9553 And so what????? Issue her with an infringement notice. THAT's all that was necessary if you believe some law was broken.

I agree with you basic assertion that the voters of Victoria are ultimately responsible for what is happening in that state. BUT .... the police do have discretion as to how they perform their duties and for two massively bigger men to handcuff this small woman hands behind her back for posting on Facebook is a MASSIVE overreaction and basically just thuggery.

@allansmith6140 Bottom line, all that was necessary was for the police to issue the woman an infringement notice. There was NEVER any justification for handcuffing someone, taking her into custody, or reading her 'rights' as if she were a mass murderer. If police wonder why they have less than the desired level of public acceptance its PR nightmare's like this. Honestly I think the cops involved need to be counseled. They were so far out of their depth on communities expectations as to how to handle such a matter it isn't even funny.

@allansmith6140 Totally agree. That's why they didn't take the boyfriends? phone. They wanted him to post the video for everyone to see it and be fearful. That's how dumb these clowns are, it'll likely have the exact opposite effect. If I lived in Melbourne I'd be going to the rally. And that is coming from a 68 year old retired accountant.
