The usher of the black rod knocking on the door isn't the only bit of theater. This whole thing is a well planned, rehearsed bit of theater, complete with actors dressed up in funny cloths and hats. And like all good shows, its meant to leave the audience with a lasting impression.

@janesansome8393 Lots of theatrical shows are reenactments based on interpretations of actual past events. The whole thing is deliberate planned THEATER for the masses.

@khankrum1 Are you serious? The whole tradition is to serve only one purpose. That is to project the power and elitism of the monarchy to the masses. It emanates from a time before social media, and TV. 'Pomp and Ceremony' was effectually the ONLY way available to the elites to communicate their superiority to the masses, it wasn't done for the elites just to amuse themselves. The grander the show of wealth and privilege the better. And in this day and age, when many people are struggling financially just to pay their energy bills, the whole show is a slightly obscene waste of public money. Not only that hypocrisy on a massive scale given the well known views of Charles and the MASSIVE 'carbon footprint' of this show with elites flying in from all over the globe in private carbon spewing jets etc.
