I agree and I think major reforms of copyright and patent laws are needed as the rules we have mostly seems to serve the rich elites. 10 years for both doesn't seem like a bad idea with the exception of some things that have a massive investment which could take longer than 10 years to get their money back and make a profit on it but in most cases, it's usually less than 10 years.

@zemom.a.8171 That can be based on investment in the idea but in most cases, 10 years should be enough to profit on an idea and as an example, look and movies, music and computer games, most make their money within weeks months of the product being released, in their cases, wanting to profit on them decades later is just pure greed and probably why so many pirate a lot of that stuff that's decades old without seeing anything wrong with it.

@zemom.a.8171 It's not so much how long it takes to develop which is rarely ever 10 years and usually just a few short years. What matter is how quickly they make their money back on it and that is usually pretty quick and within a matter of weeks or months. 10 years seems more than fair enough before it goes public domain and beside, this has nothing to do with how long it takes to make a product but how quickly it takes to recoup that investment cost back which is usually very quick. The real question you should be asking on games and movies is how many times over the investment have they made back on them? I suspect it's at least 5 to 10 times the money they put in, it's pure greed, either way, people make up their own rules, hence why piracy is still around.

@gediminaskucinskas6952 It's not so much that patents and copyrights are bad, it's how long they last which is all messed up. They need to find the right balanced where theres a incentive to invent something but not enough to profit on it for too long as that holds progress back.

@arx3516 I think that's a bit too long, especially as people are living longer over time, I think a fixed term should happen.
