To be fair, things change a lot over the last 80 years, but clearly, something is holding back the Germans, maybe the guilt from the past wars, who knows, but Germany really should be pulling it's weigh, it's the biggest economy in Europe, it should have a well run military, it's got the money to do it but it's not got the political will to make it happen, and it does make me wonder if going through the EU and building an EU military would solve this problem, maybe the Germans don't want to be a big military power any more, so maybe offloading it to the EU with other EU countries doing the same could be the solution. Either way, they can't stay as they are, they need to get their act together and so do other European countries and with a lot of resources being wasted on duplications, an EU military would solve many of these issues, if there is the political will from EU governments to make it happen and personally, I think it needs to happen if the EU countries want to compete with the US and China going forward, because it's going to be harder for the individual countries to do it.
