I tend to find that countries move in cycles in that when a country is doing bad, there's more urgent need for reforms that usually happen, the impact of which can create a small economic boom, when things are going well, countries get more careless and wasteful. In the case of Germany, they need to transform its energy industry, but even with that, the country is already in pretty good shape for the near term future and Germany is in a good position to benefit from the wealth being generated by the eastern EU countries as they continue to develop, because Germany is in a central location in Europe, which is good for trade.
