Their horrible policy ended up in a civil war, and post war they spent the money sri lanka didn't have and left sri lankans in a state of poverty. Sri lanka has agro potencial, minerals and tourism and it's right in the region with big markets like india, indonesia etc. So, yeah, criticism is very valid.
