@louiswu6300 hi, the idea that portugal is white is a 20th century concept and it very farm from the real history. Portugal is an admixture, no define ethnicity. And we know about the captains of the boats but not the fool fleet that sailed the seas. We will never know because there where no cameras to take pictures of the sailors. Before the portuguese a lot of civilizations where sailing the seas. What distinguish the pt was just the fact that they where crossing and building forts (living evidence). @louiswu6300 you are partially right. The sailors weren't white. The slave trade wasn't exclusive black (after the 16th century it changed). When the first trades of slaves where made fair women were sold to the kings of Africa (they just didn't survived so the kings stoped being interested). The sailors where an admixture. You have to analize the political reality. Morroco was never a part of the otoman empire, what better way to make sure the otomans weren't turning towards morroco than sending the friendly neighbour across the seas. And if that's the case than a lot of the sailors that actually where teaching and sailing were not white. Besides before Portugal we were al andalus, where a lot of people (including all colours and shapes) setled in what is know as Portugal today. If you make a dna test in Portugal you will see the admixture. I guive you another example: my skin in of a red hair but my brother looks like the tuareg. It is my daily business to describe my country as best as I can and that includes trying to diplomaticly making you see what we are and we are not white, we were never an ethnic group or race. We are an admixture of peoples ideas and culture trying to survive. You the one who described the Chinese and the Portuguese as a racial fiscal aspect and in the end you call me racist after I've proven to you what we actually are. Camões, he was actually there and he wrote the "lusíadas", there a whole portion denying any kind of whitness in the portuguese and he presents the ideal beautiful women in the pt imaginary as dark skin black hair and denies the beauty of the fair blond women. Portugal whitness was just a way of the dictatorship to screw with the nazi narative (salazar was playing the cards of neutrality in WWII). 20 century invention not real history.

@louiswu6300 again the one with a racist view is you. You are doing the same, you are defining those captain by their skin colour than by their ethnical reality. You are defining them the way people define all asia as chinese. Americo Tomas (the one who sailed to what us known today as canada) was a semite, a jew. @louiswu6300 but I think you don't understand and I'll try to explain. When you call PT white is the same thing as calling as Spanish. It's an insult. I think the miss communication here is because you didn't know this but I'm not very sure.

If the British did much worst, yap and actually we are the product of a servent state of the British. Sailing technology used by the Portuguese was also a product of that admixture. Google images/ paintings of Lisbon of the 15th century and you'll see that some of those captains were very much brown. We were already an admixture since the Roman empire, the Fenicians etc. The captains were just that as all portugal was. I am presenting a reality not a romance version. It was just a bunch of people trying to get rich and a greedy elite financing it (like all empires). For exemple the astrolab is Arab. The geniality of achieving this is the same that kept Portugal independent (even small as it is), diplomacy and big brain moments.

@louiswu6300 thankyou again, it's always nice to explain to someone what a insult is and be insulted time and time again. Again we are on the same rock and you still want to impose your view into others. Because in China we do it than hole world has to obey. That is what racism is. You can do and say as you please, but again you are insulting others and again that's the last harmonious way of being, which makes it little to no Chinese at all. I hope one day you learn to appreciate the variety of the world and learn to respect it. One cannot change a racist, a racist has to change himself. You will more beauty if you accept this. And I wish you the best even though I don't like racism not one bit.

@grizzlyaddams3606 I think being called as a people white, black, purple is an insult. Skin colour does not define etnicity as race is a social construct. I am a product of an admixture and so are my country fellows. It is an insult when anyone considers my people 1 thing only insted of reality which is mixture, anything else it's political and unreal as race is unreal. 1 race, human race (the nearthentals are extinct). Hope you understand my point of view. But whatever the race baiting both left and right is wining and the truth is somewhere hidden as it serves no one. Portugal isn't white nor is brown (the ones on the boat were) nor is purple. We are the red bload in green pastures while thr castles defended the lines. We are a product of circumstance of all the people that came and install themselves. Mixture and nothing else, no particular skin colour nor race.
