Milo Milo ... A classical liberal who is still liberal wont become conservative just because other people on "the left" have gone mad.

He might be right that (almost) the entire left has gone mad ... but it's hard to make the case that that doesn't go for the entire right too. But then... he seems to think Trump is brilliant, so he might not even see the problem.

dave There are... The whole disagreement between Thomas Hobbes and John Locke and between Edmund Burke and Thomas Paine was about authoritarian/conservatism and liberalism. In the end that's also where the terms "right" vs. "left" comes from. In a country like Denmark 2 of the political parties was actually originally just called "høyre" og "venstre" (right and left). Today those same two parites are called (respectively) "Konservative" and "Venstre". However, what happened since is that in Europa the socialist movement grew and created an even more "left". And in the US the term "liberal" lost it's meaning to become something more like "not conservative" or "not so strict" or whatever... it doesn't really mean "liberalism" like the founding fathers thought of classical liberalism. So in Europe the current left (which thus in Denmark doesn't include the actual party "Venstre"/"left) is the more or less authoritarian socialist inspired parties. And in the US the actual classical liberal have been forced to invent a new word "libertarian" ... but they have then because of the two-party system been flirting too much with the GOP and the conservatives which should in principle be their opponents. What's needed is IMNSHO to get rid of the two party system and the 1-dimensional political spectrum that creates, so there can be a clear distinction between ideologies, like conservatism, liberalism, socialism.and geo-liberalism/georgism.
