"Libertarian" is originally a word used in socialist context. It's only in the US it measn "classical liberal". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-communism

+basdenoudsten1 Yeah... capitalism and marxism are incompatible. But libertarian marxism is a pretty well defined thing - and the original meaning of the word. Try not to insist everyone has the same narrow definition of the word "libertarian" as you have. ... and go read up on the history of the word.

Do some research about the origins of the word "libertarian". Also, read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-communism

No - "libertarian" used to be a word used about a group of socialists. Then it got adapted to mean "classical liberal" in the US (In Europe we don't use that word for liberalists). ... and there are plenty of spectrum amongst "libertarians" even in the US. From "right-libertarian"/anarcho-capitalists to "left-libertarian". But my point is that even though language evolves, you can't really monopolize a word and prevent people from using it in the original meaning. So Brendan is perfectly sane to use the term libertarian Marxist.

+Harry. It's common knowledge - or at least ought to be: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarianism#Etymology Mind you ... We don't use the word "libertarian" in Europe. We say "liberal" ... but that word has also been twisted in the US, so now you need to preface it with "classical".

... what ever makes you hard. You can choose to ignore reality you (for some weird reason) don't like. "The association of socialism with libertarianism predates that of capitalism, and many anti-authoritarians still decry what they see as a mistaken association of capitalism with libertarianism in the United States" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_socialism#Overview I don't really care ... as I said. We don't use the word in Europe, so all this is is an excise to let your convince yourself you have inflated your ego.

The text doesn't contradict what I said. Only your added commentary does. We are of course talking about the use of the word to describe a political ideology. That the word was used just to mean something with "liberty" before doesn't contradict what I said.

Jesus.... dear Harry .... do you really think that any socialist using the term didn't also think they were defending "liberty" ? Just because you think socialism is nothing about liberty doesn't mean they did.
